 FOR THE RIDE HOME
Reading I: Amos 7: 12-15
Reading II: Ephesians 1:3-14
Gospel: Mark 6:7-13

We hear how the early Church began in today's gospel, with the disciples being sent out two by two to continue the work begun by Jesus. Jesus explained to the new missionaries that not all people would be ready to hear what they had to say, but they should not linger with those people. Those who rejected the message would be to face God's judgment. Community was important as Jesus established his Church on earth and continues to be the essence of the Church today. Two by two, the disciples needed one another. We need one another as well.

Question: How do I see God leading me in my life today? What concrete actions can I take to cooperate with God’s guidance?

 LETTER FROM THE PASTOR
Pope Benedict XVI has declared a Jubilee Year for Priests. The year began on June 19 and coincides with the 150th anniversary of the birth of St. John Vianney, the patron saint of parish priests. The Holy Father is asking that during this special year all priests renew their dedication to their priestly ministry. He has also called for this to be a year when the Church (laity and religious) commits to praying for and supporting all priests. What might this support look like? Prayers are most essential and encouraged. Support is also shown through a commitment to promote and encourage priestly vocations. Speaking personally, I know I am uplifted in my vocation and ministry as pastor when members of my flock express their appreciation for my priestly service. “Great homily”, “Thanks for all you do for us”; these can seem like trite remarks, but I enjoy knowing that parishioners are happy with my leadership and service. For us at St. Pius X Church, this jubilee year coincides with the arrival of our new associate pastor, Fr. Larry Swink. Father was ordained in 2006 and as one our recently ordained priests, we pledge to support him with our prayers, encouragement and kindness. So as we begin the Year of the Priest, let us all commit to responding to Pope Benedict’s challenge. May this be a fruitful year of grace for the universal Church and for all our priests. This year, may we grow in holiness and in a fresh outpouring of priestly vocations to serve the people of God.
God Bless! --Fr. Mike Jones

Are you new to the parish? Do you know someone who is interested in joining St. Pius? A monthly gathering to welcome all new parishioners takes place most months on the last Sunday, following the 11:30 a.m. Mass in the parish rectory. The gathering includes a light lunch, registration, information on the life of the parish, and time for questions and answers. To sign up or for more information, please contact Fr. Mike Jones at 301-262-2141 or spx_pastor@yahoo.com.

At our June 28 gathering of new parishioners we welcomed the following new members of St. Pius X Church: John & Luvinia Chavez, Carl & Janice Vettel, and Haden & Cathy Land (who also registered their children Michelle and JT). Welcome! Our next new parishioner gathering will take place on Sunday, July 26 at 12:45 p.m. in the rectory. To sign up please call Fr. Mike Jones at the rectory.

 “COME AND SEE”
Have you come here to church on Sundays but are not Catholic? Would you like to explore what baptism in the Catholic Church means? We journey all our lives. Perhaps God is calling you to new meaning and relationship. If this resonates with you, call Sr. Marty 262-2141, ext.12.

 INTERESTED IN THE CATHOLIC FAITH?
We continue to invite those interested in investigating the Catholic Faith throughout the summer. Our group will meet Wednesday night July 8th at 7:30 p.m. in the convent meeting room. If you are interested please call Sr. Marty at ext. 12.

We will begin painting the interior of the church the week of July 27—August 1. A meeting for all volunteer painters will take place on Sunday, July 19 following the 11:30 a.m. Mass. Daily Mass will be celebrated in the parish hall July 27 through 31.

 HOMECOMING

 PARISH MISSION FUND
You may recall that last summer Fr. Mike Jones instituted a special collection in support of our parish’s mission work. Each year we send groups of parishioners off to work for Habitat for Humanity and also for rebuilding in New Orleans. This year we are also helping to send a young woman to do mission work in Central America. In your envelope packet you will find an envelope for the Parish Mission Fund dated July 26. This is the date that a large number of youth and adults will depart for mission work through Habitat for Humanity. Please be generous in your support of our parish mission work. Extra envelopes are available at the front door of the church.

 PRAYERS FOR OUR PARISHIONERS
the sick members of our parish community in your prayers, especially Brooke Anne Dohony, Cathy Aberg, Billy Mann, Gloria Cuizon, Shawn Lovely, Tom Fiori, Dennis English, Dennis George, Josephine Lensler, and Ed Schirmer.

(Immediate family members may place names of parishioners on our sick list. Names will run for 3 weeks but can be repeated by contacting the office.)

 THANK YOU!
Thank you from the moms and babies of the Gabriel Network. The Knights of Columbus and Gabriel Network had a fun and successful golf tournament. All golfers, women and men enjoyed the tournament. All golfers ended the day “well fed” from the awards banquet at the Sacred Heart Council and happy with the super prizes. Thanks for your support and hope to see you again next year.

 SUMMER OFFICE HOURS
For the months of July and August, our parish office will be closed on Fridays.

 CYO RAFFLE WINNER
Congratulations to Billy Painter, winner of the CYO baseball gift basket. Thanks to all who supported the SPX CYO raffle. Proceeds will go to making improvements to the playing field behind the church.
